Is this a good time to start a home salon business?

A number of new Home Salon Success recruits have asked me whether I think this is a good time to start a home salon business. After all, the economy is suffering and the outlook is unclear.
For sure, this is a time to tread carefully and make solid business decisions but there are many advantages to starting a home salon right now. Let’s take a closer look.
As the Home Salon Success training course states, home salon treatments should not always be considered a value proposition. In other words, it’s perfectly valid, in the right circumstances to charge as much, if not more, than your main street competitors. The Home Salon Success training course examines times when you could and should charge more than your main street competitors.
Much of the time, however, a home salon owner will be in a position to offer her clients a great service at a competitor-beating price. This has three great advantages in a downturn:
- Your customers can afford to remain loyal as they continue to receive a great value treatment that does not hurt their pockets
- You can actively recruit your more expensive competitors’ customers to your business. This allows them to continue to receive salon, perhaps luxury, services and still save money from their regular spend. These customers will likely stay loyal to you even when the economy turns around.
- Everybody loves a deal. Especially when things are tight. By using the right downturn-busting promotions featured in Lesson 16, you can provide new customers legitimate reasons to use your service and still save money at the same time.
In other words, with the right pricing strategy and low-cost marketing campaign, there is no reason why your Home Salon should not be aiming to increase customers, revenue and profits despite the downturn. Make sure to use the Customer Acquisition strategies in Lesson 13 and Customer Retention Strategies in Lesson 14 to help achieve these goals.
In countries the world over, the spend on beauty and salon treatments is increasing year after year.
By starting a home salon business and making it work now, you will create a tremendous foundation for further successes in the future.
